I'm a weird combination of child and adult. What I find myself doing at age 43 is precisely what I was doing for fun at age 11. (I'm just larger and have added things like a mortgage and 401K into the mix.) I live outside Asheville in a stone and frame house at the foot of Mt Pisgah, about 5 miles below the Blue Ridge Parkway. I think its just about the perfect spot. I love to hike and mess around in the creek, turning over rocks to see what I'll find. I white water kayak, sea kayak and occasionally drag the canoe out if I find the right partner. I've been known to paddle by the light of the moon and happily walk in the woods at night. My usual partner in crime is my border collie, Kylie who at 8 years old is still a blythe little spirit who ALWAYS wants to GO, GO, GO! In order to keep the mortgage down, the 401K up and the dog in chow, I work as a Medical Technologist (lab rat)at the local hospital here in Asheville. I think microscopes are the coolest things around. While its not my dream job, it pays the bills and I'm well suited to it. (I'm a detail oriented science geek...BS in med tech with minors in biology and chemistry)
